Volunteering- A Journey of Personal Growth and Social Impact

My post-graduation in management at JIMS Rohini involved many interesting and satisfying projects.  One such project was Volunteering with SPID, a non-governmental organization in Delhi. It has been one of the most fulfilling and enriching experiences of my life. It was a year-long collaboration and has given me a broader perspective on the world, and helped me understand the importance of teamwork, discipline, and the value of working towards a common goal. What is more, the values that this experience instilled in me will stay with me for life.

The objective at SPID is to strengthen and empower society’s marginalized and vulnerable groups. During our initial visit, we conducted activities and engaged with the faculty, staff, and children to assess the issues they were facing. We identified gaps and endeavored to find solutions to their problems. By the end of the year, we were successful in addressing most of the issues the NGO was initially facing. Working for a noble cause has filled me with a sense of pride and the satisfaction from contributing to society is immeasurable.

Looking back on my journey in this IRP project, I realize how much of a blessing it has been.

When I began volunteering, I was in the initial stages of my college studies and the experience was new to me. Volunteering with SPID helped my personal growth on a daily basis. One of the most significant takeaways from my time volunteering with SPID is the opportunity to develop my teamwork skills. Collaborating with different individuals from different walks of life, diverse backgrounds, and age groups, has taught me to value differing opinions and has instilled a sense of discipline in me. It gave me the opportunity to meet incredible individuals who motivated me to prioritize the betterment of society over personal gain and to step out of my comfort zone.

I encourage everyone to consider volunteering. They should find a cause that they are passionate about and volunteer their time and skills to make a difference in society. I am grateful to the Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS, Rohini Sector-5) for providing me with an opportunity that I thoroughly appreciated.
